The Humane Society spring and summer "BEAT THE HEAT" Campaign is well
underway, and our Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) Committee is receiving a record number of phone calls from people requesting assistance to neuter or spay their pets. The economy and the growing presence of the Humane Society in the community are responsible for the increased appeals for aid. Generally, people who call us are unemployed, on public assistance, social security, or single parents. SNAP operates on your donations as well as a grant from a well-known foundation that gives $5000 for canine surgeries for companion animals. We are in the process of applying for grants that would help fund our feline surgeries. Your donations are especially appreciated when we are low on funds and between grant monies. In addition, we need responsible and committed volunteers who will offer transportation for those clients who have no way to get their pets to the veterinarian. The increasing number of appeals for help has strained the capacity of co-operating veterinarians. We owe a great debt of gratitude to Dr. Wood, Dr. Wilson, Dr. Chambers, and Dr. Wilson. If you can assist the SNAP Committee, please call us at 355-SPAY (7729). |

This event gives compassionate citizens the opportunity to meet face to face with their legislators to discuss the need for animal welfare legislation to better protect the animals who cannot advocate for themselves.
