Humane Society of Lawton-Comanche County
Small Animal Adoption Program
Small animals such as guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, rats, mice, ferrets, etc. occasionally make their way to the Humane Society. These animals need loving foster homes while they wait for their forever homes. Fostering a small animal is a great way to get started into the foster program and ideal for foster homes that don't have the space for a dog or cat. Small animals are easy to care for and the Humane Society of Lawton-Comanche County will provide all supplies needed to care for your foster critter.

Fostering A Small Animal
Caring for a small animal in your home is one of the easiest ways to try out fostering and it is a great way to get kids involved in the animal's care. Caring for a small animal may include:
- Providing a safe and loving home
- Cleaning cages and feeding/watering routine
- Transportation to and from our veterinarian for medical care, if needed
- Transportation to and from adoption events
- Providing updates and information to your foster coordinator on a regular basis
- Assisting in providing information, including a photo, for a bio for your foster's adoption
- Keeping track of and bringing all veterinary records and other paperwork to all adoption events
Foster Coordinators
Foster coordinators are volunteers within the Humane Society of Lawton-Comanche County who are available to give advice and general support to foster parents. Foster coordinators have extensive experience within the Humane Society and working with foster families. You will be assigned a foster coordinator when you pick up your foster. This person should be your primary go-to person for all foster questions or needs. If an emergency occurs and you can't contact your primary foster coordinator, it's ok to go to the next coordinator on the list until you reach someone.
Foster families within the Humane Society of Lawton-Comanche County also have access to a private Facebook page. This page is a great way to ask questions, gain guidance and talk with other foster families. It is also a primary way in which to contact foster coordinators as needed. Fosters will need to be accepted into the Facebook page by page admins upon verification of foster status.
Additional information and instructions on providing care for your foster will be provided by your foster coordinator.
