Humane Society Of Lawton-Comanche County
Dog Foster Program
Foster parents play a critical role with the Humane Society of Lawton-Comanche County. Fostering saves dogs from unnecessary hardship and the stress of the shelter environment. While fostering requires time and patience, the rewards are immeasurable. You will have the joy of knowing you have helped save a dog's life, and you free up resources within the shelter to help other homeless dogs. Watching your foster dog blossom in your care and go to their forever home is an amazing experience.
Most dogs that come in to the Humane Society come from the local animal shelters. These dogs may be kennel stressed, ill, scared, confused or in need of medical care. Most of the dogs that come into the Humane Society just need to be spayed/neutered, given vaccinations and health checked before they can be available for adoption. These dogs stay with the foster family for approximately 2 weeks before they go to an adoption event. Others may be in foster care for a longer period of time depending on their needs. When thinking about becoming a foster parent for a dog, be sure to evaluate what level of care you are able to provide before agreeing to foster a dog. There are plenty of dogs in need and we will attempt to match a foster dog with your lifestyle as best as possible. |

Dog Foster Coordinators
Dog foster coordinators are volunteers within the Humane Society of Lawton-Comanche County who are available to give advice and general support to dog foster parents. Dog foster coordinators have extensive experience within the Humane Society and working with foster families and their dogs. Dog foster coordinators are volunteers, have foster dogs, pets/families of their own and have full time jobs. Please be patient and respectful of time commitments when reaching out to your foster coordinator. You will be assigned a foster coordinator when you pick up your foster dog. This person should be your primary go-to person for all foster questions or needs. If an emergency occurs and you can't contact your primary foster coordinator, it's ok to go to the next coordinator on the list until you reach someone.
